The V-Line:
Vanier Cup:
Mac 28 Laval 20
Mac repeats as Vanier Cup champs due to the leadership of Kyle Quinlan. Laval’s defense plays well, but they can stop the relentless Mac air attack. Mac Coach Ptaszek (former WLU player) fires up the troops with a great pre-game speech and Greg Knox (former WLU player) has the Mac defense firing on all cylinders despite Kenny G turning down his offer of a one game scholarship at defensive back.
Attendance: a new Vanier Cup record is set with 33,518 in the stands, including 18 Santas.
Grey Cup:
Toronto 31 Calgary
Ricky Ray, all the way as the Argos win at home. Chad Owens puts up big numbers and flexes his many tattoos. The game is won on a last minute field goal by Swayze Waters, the kicker in the CFL with the best name.
Weekend antics
- We are threatened with eviction off the train at Oshawa, but smooth talking Big Fun Rick get us a reprieve and we stay onboard
- Scalpers back off JRock and Towny as they are deathly afraid of Santas (kind of like Safety Kev and his childhood fear of clowns)
- Laval fans recognize les peres Noel and Santa IT Loney gets several offers of young coeds to sit on his knee, creating a new meaning of HO HO HO.
- Rookie of the year is a tight race, eventually settled with a Gangham Style dance off in Santa apparel
- Don Cherry is once again a big hit: he single-handedly solves the NHL lockout, signs autographs and poses with photos for drunken Saskatchewan fans all afternoon, and makes it on stage for a half-time duet with the Biebs
Don's Dirt (note: Don can't make it this year, but will be watching for us on TV) Mac 42 Laval 38
Saw a great piece on TSN Tuesday morning featuring Quinlan, so off the bat, I have Mac as the winner. This is going to be another great game as it was last year. There is no QB in the CIS (since Flynn) who can throw downfield as KQ can. For that reason, this is going to be a high scoring, very exciting game with Mac repeating. They have the experience and the the staff to come out on top. Ptaszek vs Constantine is going to be the difference since they match up so well on the field and Ptaszek is able to motivate his players in a way that no other coach can (except Doug Hargreaves)
Toronto 26 Calgary 24
Toronto wins a close one at home in front of the home crowd. It is just a feeling that TO will come through unlike Montreal and Calgary a couple of years ago. MVP will be between Ray and Owens, but it will come down to a combination of the two to win the game on another late kick. Cheering for the Boatmen!
Vanier is going to be really well attended due to the fact that both teams are "close" Mac is down the road and Laval has always attended Toronto well - 26,000 fans screaming and having a great time
Movember winner - Big Fun Rick (Dylan...after 10 days says "Dad, you look ridiculous" It is now gone after further days of non-support. But it did look better than Jay's on TSN in the morning.)
Kent - Back to the friendly confines of Rogers Center, will not be taped to a chair, but will have another bout of food poisoning at the hands of a red bottle(s) of wine.
IT - "dirty sheets" in the morning
G – Spot:
Mac 41 Laval 28
This will be a sweet game with 2 potentially high scoring offences but I think the Mac D under the direction of “Greg Knox of the Hawks” will dominate and keep Laval to under 30. The Mac 2 will get 2 defensive scores to make the difference. Attendance will be 36,580 a new Vanier record. Laval fans will be livid and feel betrayed when they realize the Vanier Pere Noels are cheering against their team. Most Vanier Pere Noels remain calm and “show class” on the field of play but one of us puts the “ass” in class and shows them the moon
TO 35 Calgary 33 (28 + FG+ rouge) in OT
The 100th Grey Cup proves to be a classic and goes to OT where Swayze “Roadhouse” Waters redeems himself in OT after missing a FG late in the 4th. Fans go wild and we are on the field with thousand of other lunatics
Hijinx:
Via runs out of toilet paper and the combination of pickled eggs, pepperettes, beer and too many washroom visits make us go off the rails and stop in Crosby
White Lincoln takes over several dance floors over the weekend showing them how to dance on tables and defy gravity
Mrs. Garrett from Hamiltoe tracks us down and goes on attack...She has passed from cougar to “skankasaurus” given the passing years
We exhume Rocking Irene and Nate and take them to the Brunswick house with us for one last gig
