1 sleep newsletter

Good Evening Gentlemen,

Get ‘yer beauty sleep, it’s on like Donkey Kong. Given our early start tomorrow and the fact we will not likely get served on the train, I would recommend smuggling on some bailey’s and grab a coffee on the way. I will likely pick up one of those big-assed boxes of Tim’s and some cups. Then we can also throw a pint or perhaps a dram of delicious XXX Sherry in the cup after. Don’t forget your snacks , see youse tomorrow. Bon Soir!

2 sleeps newsletter

Hey Fellas,

Only a couple more sleeps till departure. With University of Montreal advancing to the Big Game it should be an awesome atmosphere! For those who actually care about the game it should be a great match-up with 2 very good teams. Ok…enough about the game, let’s get on to Bidnaz... I am looking forward to everyone suits, I have received several picks of some sorry-assed looking material and entertaining tales of how they were acquired. I have Grenadine and Peppermint schnapps so we need some Crème de menthe and shot glasses for our candy cane shooters. With no tailgate we will do it at hotel… ironing boards are provided!  It will be great to see everyone and here’s to making more memories we might not remember!

Official Itinerary:

Friday
Various times of departure, Ottawa group leaves Fallowfield station at 9:32 AM. Get on Car #4
9:45 -  11:45 - travel, snacks, witty banter and illegal morning beverages on train
11:48  - Ottawa contingent arrives at Montreal station
11:55 -  CCCAAAAAAAABBBBBBB! (backup plan is to enjoy a leisurely stroll/pub crawl to hotel)
12:10 – 12:25 - arrive at hotel and stow bags and request early check in
12:30 – ???? - find place for lunch, beverages and general debauchery. Perhaps mini pub crawl to Peel Pub, etc.?
4:00 – 4:45 -  think about returning to hotel, check in…perhaps enjoy a delightful hot tub and poolside beverages?
5:00 – 5:25 -  get cleaned up and ready for Slack Night . NOTE “casual chique “ attire required such as Under Armour evening wear &  slacks
5:30  - Departure for Old Montreal  via CCCAAAABBBSSS for Steak Dinner at Gibby’s.
5:45 – 8:30 ??? Stuff faces with meat and enjoy more assorted beverages. CP Sommelier Spencer Grabe will be on hand to assist with wine selection, food parings and “best value” bottles from wine list
8:30 – TBD locations for general boozing and debauchery.
11:45 PM – moment of silence outside of McDonald’s for “Towny” Townend who is MIA this year. He is unable to join us due to the sudden labial growth in his genital area. A second mystery affliction has caused the reduction in size of his testicles
1:30 – poutine?
Curfew – 5 AM

SATURDAY

8 ish – Rise and shine, perhaps baileys and coffee in hot-tub
9 AM – bfast near hotel if desired, location TBD but there is a crepe place around corners that also does 2-egg breakfast and smoothies. Pre-game Bar also opens kitchens at 10 AM if you prefer to wait
9:30 AM  - suit up into Santa Gear and enjoy breakfast Caesars and Candy Cane Shooters (pack tickets and IV Bags etc.)
10:00  -  walk 3 blocks to "Bar des Pins" , It is a delightful, dingy, dirty drinking hole around the corner from the stadium that opens at 9:30 AM. We have called ahead and they will start serving us beer as soon as we get there. Adam was told "No worries, the beer will be flowing as soon as we open!" https://bardespins.wordpress.com/

10:15 – 12:30 enjoy pregame festivities, food and beverages. Work on French language skills
12:31 -  depart for game… mingle with locals and other football fans. “Vive les Carabins!”
12:50  - Vanier Santas invade Stadium
1:00  - kickoff of 50th Vanier Cup!!!

6:30 ish  -  supper if and wherever desired, several of us are thinking Bar-B-Barn depending on our state and if they have availability
8:00 - ??? various entertainment venues…. Some suggestions are Biodome, Montreal museum of fine Arts, Montreal Ballet http://www.grandsballets.com/en/
11:00  - moment of silence outside of nearest McDonald’s for Towny.
5:00 AM  - curfew

SUNDAY

7 AM – shake off cobwebs
Goodbyes, Salutations, settling of previous night’s wagers/debts

Predictions:

G-Spot:

Montreal Carabins 31 McMaster Marauders 27
The Carabins' and the Marauders struggle in a, epic see-saw battle that goes back and forth for 4 quarters. I really don’t know any of the players but I do know this…. I kicked Adam’s ass in predictions last week and my substantial gut tells me I will be right again. G-Crest OUT

Attendance
23,999

Potential Hijinx
- VanierCupSantas are asked to join the Montreal Ballet as a seasonal dance troup
- TSN is very interested in our thoughts on the game
- Jerred loses his Santa suit…for the 10th year in a row
- Toronto guys think that we have to hang in “Old Montreal” because we are over 40
- Coach Ptaszek of Mac meets up with his fellow Laurier alumni - and asks us not to attend any more Vaniers

V-Line:

Montreal Carabins 35 McMaster Marauders 10
The Carabins' stingy defence stops the Marauders and playing in their hometown helps propel the U de M on to victory. Gabe Cousineau the Montreal QB is named player of the game and Montreal LB Byron Archambault proves he is best in the country with several sacks of Mac QB Marshall Ferguson.

Attendance
19,500 (about 4K short of a sellout)

Potential Hijinx
- We get #VanierCupSantas trending on Twitter
- Peel Pub is invaded by a troupe of Santa Clauses and is never the same.
- White Lincoln takes full advantage of the 10L Beer Machine of Labatt 50 at McLean's Pub: http://mcleanspub.com/speciaux-specials-2/
- Kenny invents a new late night snack: the smoked poutine meat sandwich
- We meet several celebrities: Michel Pagliaro, Veronique Cloutier and Guy A. Lepage.  (Trust me, these people are celebs in Montreal.)
- Coach Ptaszek of Mac meets up with his fellow Laurier alumni - and decides he made a good decision moving on to Mac.
- The 20th Annual Road Trip attendees get some significant media exposure once again, building on the following recent successes:

Vanier Cup Santas Interviewed in 2010

Remember the time the Vanier Cup Santas were interviewed on Radio Canada in Quebec City in 2010?

This weeks’ predictions:

V-Line

Montreal 35 Manitoba 8.
The Cinderella season for the Bisons ends as Montreal will make their first appearance in Vanier Cup in their home city.

McMaster 42 Mount Allison 22
Mount A is currently undefeated but are no match for the Stef Ptaszek coached Marauders who lay a beat down them, and advance to the Vanier for the third time in four years where they hope for a repeat of their 2011 win.

G Spot

Montreal 28 Manitoba 21
Closer then expected as Manitoba is used to cold weather… being the underdog aare not feeling the pressure and they have a decent ground game. Montreal victory should get the Peppers riled up for next weekend. Free poutine handed out after the game

McMaster 31 Mount Allison 10
Prediction is Paaaaaaiiin. Mac’s D will manhandle the Mount A offence (sorry Spence). Spencer witl go through 1.5 boxes of Kleenex… and one jar of vaseline

21 sleeps update

Hi Lads,

Time is getting closer…it is that time of year to start storing sleep and mentally training for the weekend. It is going be the a beauty in La Belle Province. Combo of 2 historic events. It is the 50th Vanier Cup and the 20th anniversary of our Vanier Cup Road Tour. You are going to part of history… albeit one we will likely forget. Good thing we have this along with Adam’s personal memoirs; http://vaniercup.blogspot.ca/

Here are some key updates and actions;

·         if you don’t have your Santa Suit, better buy it ASAP….. after this weekend Cdn. Tire starts getting low on stock. Ask Jerred, after 8 years and 7 suits, he knows the market trend and inventory challenges. The Vanier Pere Noels will rock in Montreal and kit is mandatory

·         Adam has arranged seating so we are all in general vicinity on the train … All except for Grimo who apparently is returning December December 28! Menu attached but as always it is a melting pot/potluck some bring your best snacks.

·         I am looking into a group dinner on the Friday night at some place that serves grilled meat of the Beef variety. If you are not interested, pls let me know so I have numbers.

·         We have a potential tailgate venue for pre-game. A local Montrealer associate/friend who lives not far from stadium has offered his yard and grill for a tailgate for before the game.

·         Final Rankings;

1. Laval (1)
2. Montreal (3)
3. McMaster (4)
4. Calgary (2)
5. Guelph (5)
6. Mt. Allison (6)
7. Western (7)
8. Saskatchewan (8)
9. Sherbrooke (9)
10. Ottawa (10)

·         For those who are interested, here are the weekend’s CIS playoff matchups… Starting tonight!
