The 2018 Vanier Cup road tour to Quebec City was another success, with fun had by all.
The bus ride down was enjoyable, with 20 lads safely driven by our newbie at the wheel, Gary who was a great chauffeur. After a 9ish departure from CP with a quick stop in Rigaud for refreshments, we made it to our hotel Chateau Laurier in QC in good time.
Mark and Commander came in from Toronto by air and had the first celebrity sighting with Chrystia Freeland being spotted. Robert Loggia also arrived from Halifax.
Slack night was spent at Restaurant Louis-Hebert after which hi-jinks ensued on the Grande Allee.
The tailgate on Saturday morning, was as always, impressive. We arrived our ten, dressed as a group of 22 Santa Clauses (we lost one rookie) and took our game to the next level. Above the regular ironing board and candy cane shooters, with D-Ball cooking up apple fritters which were a taste sensation.
We served several locals shooters and enforced our "no photos unless a shooter is consumed policy". Our best celebrity sighting this year was Andrew Scheer, leader of the Official Opposition in the House of Commons who had a shooter with us and posed for a photo.
The weather was beautiful, about -1C with no wind.
The game was decent, as Laval cruised to a victory 34-20 over Western to earn their tenth Vanier Cup.
Fun was had by most on Saturday night on the Grande Allee and we gathered up the troops for a quiet ride home on Sunday morning.
Our rookie of the year, as per our vote on the way home was "Rhino", with a great inaugural tour, especially the wearing of the shopping bag beard.
